Spruce Pine, NC is a little mountain town in the Western North Carolina Mountains. With breathtaking views and friendly people, Spruce Pine has become a place to visit when you just want to get away and have some peace. Located in Mitchell County, Spruce Pine is very close to the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, Mount Mitchell, and also very close to the popular, Grandfather Mountain. Historically Spruce Pine was known for gemstone mining and for many years, the economy of the town was based mostly on the mining industry. Due to its location near the popular resort town of Banner Elk, Spruce Pine has grown in recent years and visitors come to the town each year to experience the beauty and tranquility of Western North Carolina.

Spruce Pine, like other mountain towns, experience lower temperatures than places off of the mountain and people flock to the area of Western North Carolina each year to enjoy the climate. Average temperatures in the summer are in the low 80’s and temperatures in the winter usually remain near 45 degrees, making Spruce Pine a popular place to live seasonally for many residents.

People come to Spruce Pine each year to enjoy the mountains and all that there is to do outdoors. The Appalachian Trail, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Nolichucky River, the Toe River, Roan Mountain, Linville Caverns, and Grandfather Mountain are all within a short driving distance from downtown Spruce Pine. Golf is also a popular pastime in Western North Carolina, as there are many great places to play golf in Spruce Pine and in nearby Banner Elk. In addition to all the fun outdoor places that you can check out in Spruce Pine, there are a few gem mining attractions where you and your family can mine precious stones and enjoy learning more about the mining industry.
